Band slam battle is on

Ten high schools will go head-to-head in the 2019 High School Band Slam at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from Thursday March 7 to Friday March 15, from 6pm.

The audience can expect a wide range of music genres and pupils playing instruments including the drums, piano, guitar and saxophone.

The shortlist of schools include Rustenburg Girls’ High, Parklands College, Bergvliet High, Belhar High, Wynberg Girls’ High, Parel Vallei High, Norman Henshilwood High, Bishops, Bridgetown High and Elsies River High.

The top three bands will stand a chance to win musical consultation and equipment for their school to the value of R20 000 from Mars Music.

An additional R5 000 V&A Waterfront gift voucher will be awarded to the school that demonstrates they have the best crowd participation and support.

Each school band will be scored by a panel of industry experts according to musicality, presentation and crowd participation.

The finals will be on Friday March 15, at 6pm. All the concerts are free.

On Thursday March 7, Rustenburg Girls’ High School will perform from 6pm until 6.30pm, and Parklands College from 6.45pm until 7.15pm.

On Friday March 8, Bergvliet High School will perform from 6pm until 6.30pm, Belhar High School from 6.45pm until 7.15pm, and Wynberg Girls’ High School from 7.30pm until 8pm.

On Wednesday March 13, Parel Vallei High will perform from 6pm until 6.30pm, and Norman Henshilwood High School from 6.45pm until 7.15pm.

On Thursday March 14, Bishops will perform from 6pm until 6.30pm, Bridgetown High from 6.45pm until 7.15pm and Elsies River High from 7.30pm until 8pm. For more information, visit waterfront.co.za
