Comedian does comedy run

Rory Petzer

Durban comedian Rory Petzer plans to run an ultra marathon and do a comedy show in the same day.

Rory will run the 56km Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon on Saturday April 20 and then do a comedy set at Cape Town Comedy Club that same evening.

“I ran my first ever Comrades Marathon last year and I survived, so I’m sure I’ll be able to tell a few jokes after this year’s Two Oceans. I’ll have 56km in which to write my material for the evening,” he said.

Rory said he’s pretty sure no comedian has ever run an ultra marathon in the morning and then performed on a stage that same day.

“In fact, I don’t even know of a comedian who has run an ultra marathon! I’ve asked around and everybody thinks I’m crazy for even trying, but I’ve signed up for both, so there is no turning back.

“There is a long walk down the stairs from the backstage area to the stage. If I can make that journey without using the handrails, I’ll be fine. I’m sure I have nothing to worry about.”

Rory will perform alongside a few other top South African comedians at the Cape Town Comedy Club on Saturday April 20 and Sunday April 21.

The show starts at 8.30pm. The Cape Town Comedy Club will also host Q Dube from Zimbabwe as their headline act
for the week until Sunday April 21.
