The Cape Town Youth Choir will entertain at Christ Church Constantia on Sunday December 1, at 3pm.
Formerly called Pro Cantu, this Cape Town-based choir has distinguished itself at international choir festivals throughout Europe and
in China, winning top prizes and six gold medals since it began in 1997.
The choir is conducted by Leon Starker.
In July, the choir went on a tour of Greece, Italy and Austria. The singers took part in two international chamber-choir competitions, winning the top prize in Greece and coming second in Spittal an der Drau, Austria.
In Austria, they were awarded the prize for the best performance of a modern work for their interpretation of an arrangement of a Finnish folk song, Pakkanen.
The concert at Christ Church Constantia will include Christmas carols (Gaudete, Lully Lulla Lullay, Infant Holy), two works by Ola Gjeilo (O Magnum Mysterium and Ubi Caritas), works by Mendelssohn, Gustav Holst and Eric Whitacre and African American spirituals.
A highlight will be a new commissioned arrangement of Somerkersfees, one of the best-known Afrikaans carols, written by Koos du Plessis.
