Dress up for charity at the Twighlight Run

It’s that time of the year again when thousands of Capetonians pound the streets in fancy (some would say crazy) dress for a good cause. Yes, the Twilight Team Run is back.

The annual event raises money for Community Chest and this year the theme is “Unite the City for Charity.

Lorenzo Davids, the organisation’s Western Cape CEO, called on corporates and the public to support the run on Tuesday December 6.

Proceeds will help equip thousands of children for the 2017 school year.

The run is celebrating its 34th birthday this year and is expected to attract more than 10 000 fun walkers, runners and skaters who will strut their way from Darling Street, at the Grand Parade, for 4km through the side streets of the CBD and back to the starting point again.

It’s a chance for participants to show off their creative costumes, and they can enter a dress-up competition, at 5.30pm, followed by the race at 7pm.

Afterwards, participants can party it up at the Twilight Festival on the Grand Parade.

Families and friends can join forces to enter as teams, as well as schools, NGOs, municipal departments, large corporations and small businesses.

“It is the only fun run or walk event that awards no medals for first place over the finish line and has no timekeepers but rather encourages community-based revelry in support of a great cause,” said Mr Davids.

Alcohol is not allowed on the route and at the Twilight Festival area on the Grand Parade, but it can be bought at licenced entertainment areas at the event.

Entries cost R70. Visit www.comchest.org.za/twilight-festival to register. Online registrations close on Sunday November 27.

Entries are also available from the Rondebosch, Canal Walk, Dyersville, West Coast, Tokai, Sea Point and Somerset West Sportsmans Warehouse stores until Monday November 14. Number pack collection takes place at the City Hall, on Monday December 5, from 1pm to 6pm, and on Tuesday December 6, from noon to 6pm.
