Levy Sekgapane

■ South African tenor Levy Sekgapane will be performing the Messiah with the Cape Town Youth Choir on Saturday March 24 at the Jameson Hall, University of Cape Town, upper campus, at 7pm; and on Sunday March 25 at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium, Picton Street, Parow, at 4pm. Sekgapane will be accompanied by Bongani Kubheka, Magdalene Minnaar and Minette du Toit-Pearce. He is currently in the middle of a busy opera season. He arrives in Cape Town on Friday March 23, performs on the weekend and has to fly back to Florence immediately where he is singing the role of d’Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. Levy has just finished recording his first CD in Munich. It is a recital of arias from different operas of Rossini. Founded in 1997 under the name Pro Cantu, the Cape Town Youth Choir aims to provide an opportunity for young South Africans to sing in a choir of the highest international standards.
