Lockdown song raises funds for artists and feeding schemes

Thandeka Dladla contributed to the song Reach the Sky.

Fourteen musicians collaborated on the recording and release of Luna Paige’s song and YouTube video Reach the Sky.

The song, which is written in four languages, aims to inspire South Africans during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lyrical contributions were by Luna Paige, Frazer Barry (Afrikaans), Lumanyano “Unity” Mzi (Xhosa) and Sima Mashazi (Zulu).

Due to lockdown restrictions, all video footage and recordings were produced individually.

Proceeds will go towards the support of the 14 participating artists and two feeding schemes, Foodforward SA and Breadline Africa.

The song features Luna Paige, Lea Venga, Sima Mashazi, Marcia Moon, Nick Turner, Frazer Barry, Lumanyano “Unity” Mzi and Thandeka Dladla on vocals.

Nick Turner also plays acoustic guitar alongside Frank Freeman on the electric guitar. The rhythm section consists of Schalk van der Merwe on bass and Kevin Gibson on drums.

Piano, mixing and mastering was by Blake Hellaby. The organ was by blues man Simon Orange and African pipe by Jamie Jupiter.
