Orchestra event to raise funds for courses

True lovers of chamber music for wind instruments know that the Dvorak Serenade Op 44 for two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, three horns, cello and double bass is one of the most loved and admired works in the repertoire.

This sublime work, along with Mozart’s sunny wind octet in E flat are on the programme in an exciting fundraising event to be presented by members of the SA National Youth Orchestra on Wednesday June 15 at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Green Point, at 8pm, and the conductor of the young musicians will be Matthew Reid.

The concert is one of a series of coordinated chamber music concerts around the country entitled Chamber for Change.

The purpose is to raise funds for this year’s SA National Youth Orchestra course, following the withdrawal of SASOL as its major sponsor after 30 years.

Tickets for the concert are R100, and additional donations are welcome. Booking is at the door or online through Quicket, or call 082 864 4550 for details.
