The Artscape Youth Jazz Festival takes place at the Artscape theatre on Friday June 30, at 7.30pm.
It celebrates 14 soloists who successfully auditioned to be included in the Artscape mentorship programme, which culminates in the jazz festival.
The young musicians are getting the opportunity to work with five top jazz musicians in a 10-week mentorship programme. The workshops cover South African jazz, business management for musicians and techniques. Time is also devoted to musicians who have their own compositions.
Musical director Amanda Tiffin is leading the mentors, including Camillo Lombard, Frank Paco, Shaun Johannes and Marc de Kock, and together they form a jazz ensemble to accompany the young musicians at the festival.
