Clifton apartment most expensive on sale in SA

This Clifton apartment is waiting for its new owner… at a cost of R170 million.

Listed at R170 million, an eight-bedroom beach oasis in Clifton is currently the most expensive listing available within South Africa.

Previously one of the most expensive listing in the country topped out at R150 million for a five-bedroom home in Fresnaye and was marketed by sales associate, Karryn Cartoulis of RE/MAX Living.

Since acquiring the listing in the later half of 2020, Cartoulis received plenty of interest and two very serious offers on the R150 million home before it was recently sold. She expects similar levels of interest for this new R170 million apartment that has recently been added to her repertoire of luxury listings.

Forged into the cliffside flanking of one of Clifton’s premiere beaches, the Eventide apartment was designed by world-renowned architectural firm, SAOTA.

The entrance level of this double story apartment features a state-of-the-art, open-plan “front of house” kitchen with a free-standing island and white marble countertops, as well as a dining and living area surrounded by frameless glass stacking doors. With the doors fully opened, this area becomes an extension of the outdoor living space, which has a private 20m heated lap pool.

Also on the entrance level is a fully equipped service kitchen with a separate entrance, a laundry area, a glass-enclosed and temperature-controlled wine cellar, two guest powder rooms, as well as two spacious en-suite bedrooms, one of which includes a double steam shower, separate toilet and a dressing room. Both suites open up onto the outdoor living space.

On the first floor is the family residence that includes an additional open-plan chef’s kitchen, lounge and dining area all flowing onto a large entertainment terrace. The first floor can be partitioned into two separate apartments, each with their own entrances, by activating the automated security shutter. This ensures complete privacy when hosting an event in the main reception area.

The luxurious master-suite offers a dressing room and an enclosed bathroom that can become a steam room at the touch of a button. There are an additional three spacious en-suite bedrooms. The gym, with its own en-suite bathroom and built-in cupboards could potentially be used as a fifth bedroom if required.

Additional extras include: an en-suite pyjama lounge or playroom with a gas fireplace; an elevated nook with a heated plunge pool and built-in seating area; and a luxurious open-plan study replete with a seating area and gas fireplace.
