The Fire Management Department will be conducting controlled burns in various sections of the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) in the coming weeks. The TMNP is in the process of conducting a series of fuel reduction burns in the northern section of the park as done annually.
The burns will consist only of allocated stacks of wood and slash being burnt at each location. Stack burning usually takes place in colder and wetter months between May and October once a sufficient amount of rain has fallen. The next burn is scheduled for the middle of October and will take place near the Groote Schuur Game Camp followed by a burn conducted at the Lower Slopes of Devils Peak.
No burning will occur in strong or gale force winds nor over weekends or public holidays.
Landowners have the right to object to the proposed open burning in writing to the Air Quality Management Department on tell number 021 590 5200 or fax 021 590 5215; or via email to Bronwyn.Davidson@capetown.gov.za For further enquiries, please contact Table Mountain National Park Fire Manager Philip Prins on 021 689 7438/9.
