Sub-council 16 has supported the approval of the proposed new leases of public open spaces which make up a portion of erf 1056, in Vlei Road, Green Point.
The public space is situated in the Green Point Athletics Stadium and is used for sports and community activities.
It is proposed that the space be leased to three applicants – Western Province Athletics, Cape Peninsula University of Technology Athletics and the Lion’s Club of Sea Point – for a period of five years at R1016 a year, including Vat and that the property be used for sports and community purposes only.
It was suggested that renting out the land would relieve council of the responsibility of maintaining it.
The three applicants used to lease premises on the Green Point Common, but these agreements were terminated for the implementation of the site development plans for the stadium and the Green Point Urban Park during the World Cup.
They were moved to the athletics stadium where they have been “good tenants” over the past three years.
The City said they had called for alternative proposals to the proposed leases but there had been no responses.
