The NSRI Bakoven duty crew rescued a man and woman, aged 22 and 25, after their double sea-kayak capsized near Bakoven on Saturday.
The couple, from Rondebosch, were washed out to sea in southerly winds gusting at 45 knots, according to a NSRI report.
“We reached them on the north side of South Lions Paw, between two and three nautical miles from where they first capsized,” said Andrew Hirsch, NSRI Bakoven duty coxswain.
The couple were taken to the NSRI Bakoven sea rescue base where they were treated for hypothermia. Their sea-kayak was also retrieved.
The NSRI praised the eyewitnesses for warning them of the danger.
