Herbet Hirsch, Mouillie Point
I was a provincial councillor in the 1970s and 1980s and thus a running mate of Colin Eglin and was present at the function last Thursday when the library was formally renamed.
It was a memorable and enjoyable occasion with a few appropriate speeches.
The one missing fact which needs to be placed on record is the role played by old time Sea Point resident Errol Anstey.
Errol supported the then Progressive Party since he was a school boy and conceived, I believe, this idea and function in honour of Colin Eglin. What is more, Errol deserves credit for all the nitty gritty which goes into organising such a function, compiling the guest list, seeing to memorabilia, catering and so on.
The purpose of this letter is to ensure that Errol’s essential role is recognised and not forgotten.
