Daniella donates to animal shelter

Green Point’s Daniella Sangiorgio wanted to do something for the animals in shelters for Mandela Day this year so she decided to buy fleece and make blankets.

Ms Sangiorgio put out a call on social media urging people to assist with donations.

“The immediate response I got from some special ladies really warmed my heart knowing how much they cared for animals like I did. I even received a donation in euros from an ex-student who stayed with us a few years ago,” said Ms Sangiorgio. She said she spent a few late nights cutting and sewing the blankets with her mother Gina Sangiorgio.

“We saw how long this was going to take so my mom taught me how to use the machine and we lent my aunts machine so we could (work) faster.

“A big thank you to my aunt, Melanie Hablutzel for not only the donation but for the endless threading of cotton on the machines for us each time we had problems,” she said.

Ms Sangiorgio said they also had a special donation from the children at Reddam Atlantic Seaboard who hand knitted blankets. With all the donations they managed to make 120 blankets for the cats and dogs at the SPCA and also collected food and treats. On Saturday July 21,

Ms Sangiorgio and her mother went to The Cape of Goodhope SPCA and Adopt-a-Pet to hand over their collection.
