A 50-year-old foreign national will spend Christmas behind bars after he was nabbed at Cape Town International Airport with almost half a million rand worth of heroin, say police.
Border police noticed the man acting nervous while waiting to board an international flight, on Wednesday December 21, said provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie.
He became more agitated when he was approached to verify his travel documents, which led to officers searching his suitcase and finding 2kg of heroin worth an estimated R480 000 in a false compartment, said Lieutenant Colonel Pojie.
The man appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday December 22, and the matter was postponed to Thursday December 29 for a formal bail application.
