Heather Allen, Order of St Lazarus
The Western Cape commandery of the Order of St Lazarus is asking you to help us help the ill, elderly, and indigent residents of iKhaya Loxolo, a home in Gugulethu for the elderly, where over 180 of our citizens – mostly disabled or chronically and terminally ill, are in desperate need of these items to help them exercise and undertake the most mundane of daily tasks.
The Order of St Lazarus focuses its work on charity, with 100% of any funds we raise going to our charities. We’re asking members of our community to donate their previously owned and unwanted walkers, bath chairs, Zimmer frames, wheel chairs and the like to help elderly folk from the poorest of the poor communities who are left immobile due to absolute lack of access to these life support necessities.
There must be scores of such items hidden at the back of garages or just tucked away in cupboards around homes across the Mother City. These would mean a great deal to someone who is ill and will never have the means to otherwise be able to walk or bath themselves.
We need to help the elderly and infirm at iKhaya Loxolo help themselves and give our fellow citizens some sense of dignity in their last years.
Members of the Order will happily collect these from you at your convenience.
Just pick up the telephone and call me on 082 566 8803 and we’ll do the rest.
