The City would like to advise the public that the Recreation and Parks Department will be allowing graveside visits under the following lockdown Level 2 conditions:
Visitors must wear face masks, adhere to social distancing and sanitise their hands.
Visiting times are between 9am and 3pm on weekdays, and 9am and 4pm on weekends and public holidays.
Visitors needing assistance with finding a grave must make an appointment with the official in charge, limited to between 8am and 5pm on weekdays.
Maintenance of memorials, gardening and cleaning of graves is the family’s responsibility, however, new memorial work is subject to obtaining a memorial permit and work may only be carried out on a weekday.
Unveiling of memorials and consecration of grave ceremonies are allowed, subject to a booking with the relevant cemetery office. However, the same conditions apply as with burial services, ie. limited to a maximum of 50 people, 30 minutes, one 3 x 2m gazebo and 10 chairs.
Mourners have to wear face masks, adhere to social distancing and make provision for hand sanitising.
Please note that the 50-person attendance limit is still in place for both funerals and burials under level 2 lockdown. This will be strictly applied. We also urge residents to consider weekday burials to ease the pressure being felt by cemeteries on Saturdays.
The City appeals to the public to abide by the regulations in the interest of their own safety, and the safety of others.
