Empathy, kindness and a passion for photography are what drove Sea Point resident Grazia Barletta to publish a coffee table book of her work.
Titled Moments that have captured my heart, the book is a compilation of photographs depicting everyday situations with inspirational quotes to inspire and uplift readers.
“With this book, I’m trying to share my photographs and the stories they tell and for others to see and understand that we all have at one or other time been through the same situation and that there is always a silver lining, even at the most saddest of times,” she said.
Ms Barletta, a blogger and photographer, will not pocket any money from the sale of the book as she’s donating it to Catholic charities.
She managed to raise more than R14 000 from the first print-run and donated it to St Joseph’s Home in Montana.
The second donation went to Missionaries of Charity home in Khayelitsha.
This is Ms Barletta’s way of giving back as she feels she has been blessed her whole life and has much to be grateful for.
The sales from the third print-run will be going to Nazareth House, in Vredehoek, which has served communities in South Africa for over 130 years. “The Sisters of Nazareth opened their doors to the poorest of the poor in caring for the sick, destitute, aged and underprivileged, orphaned children. They change the lives of those who have no hope,” she said.
“Spending time with you showed me what I’ve been missing in my life,” by Nicholas Sparks is one of the quotes that can be found in the book and one closest to Ms Barletta’s heart.
“It’s just saying that one day you meet someone that is different and realise that, that’s what was missing in your life. It can apply to anyone really,” she said.
Copies of Moments that have captured my heart are available at the Wordsworth stores in Sea Point and Gardens Centre as well as Oxford Stationers in Gardens Centre for R200. Those interested in purchasing the books can also email Ms Barletta directly on graziabarletta1@gmail.com
