The United States Consulate in Tokai celebrated the 242nd year of independence last week with the theme Route 66. Budweiser, Jack Daniels, Harley Davidson and Packards, Hershey delights and corn dogs to opera and a cappella were some of the flavours enjoyed by guests as they tasted the cultural, culinary, musical diversity of what some regard as the Mother Road of America. From Chicago to California, this 3 940km road was one of the original routes within the American highway system and Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926. With Americans celebrating Independence Day on July 4 the consulate held an early celebration on Wednesday June 20, so that staff can take Independence Day off.
