Tamboerskloof guitarist, singer and songwriter Rochelle Duvenage, also known as Little Rock, will host the launch event for her debut single Winter Years at Queens Whiskey & Cocktail Lounge, V&A Waterfront, on Saturday August 31, at 7.30pm.
The song went live on streaming platforms on August 1.
The singer will be joined by Jak Tomas (Joshua K. Grierson) on bass, Callula Jane Clay-Smith on drums, and Eden Sickle on cello.
“Because of the band it brings a folk rock feel as opposed to traditional folk music, although my style is folk orientated as it’s storytelling, it’s about my experiences,” said Little Rock.
In 2017, she gave her first solo public performance on a small stage in Grahamstown. She has since performed at various live music venues in Cape Town and is a regular at The House of Machines’ Songwriter’s Showcase.
“It will be my first time playing live with the band and we are all excited about it. I’m also looking forward to seeing Like The Mouse (supporting act) on stage,” she said.
She said her artist name Little Rock is the actual meaning of her name, Rochelle, and she believes the moniker embodies the ethos of her music which explores the strange, beautiful, and contradictory facets of the human condition.
“I see Little Rock as a reflection of my musical talents as well as the essence and the core of my music, which is mostly about my life experiences, and I’ve drawn inspiration from past and present artists.”
Her musical influences include Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel, as well as modern performers such as Laura Marling and Ruby Gill.
Tickets cost from R120 through Quicket.
