A 44-year-old man was arrested for firing a weapon after a fight broke out outside Cubana in Green Point in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
The Green Point City Improvement District (GPCID) said, four Nigerian men had been involved. They said a bystander grabbed a gun from his car and shot one of the men before speeding off along Somerset Road.
The GPCID precinct commander alerted the police who were at the time conducting a crime prevention operation in the area.
“Constable Louise Teixeria immediately reacted to the complaint and with the assistance of Green Point CID security, after a high speed chase, arrested a 44-year-old suspect for illegal discharge of a firearm in Somerset Road,” said Cape Town Central police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October.
He said the man was detained and remain in custody for further investigation.
The Norinco .45 9mm pistol and six live ammunition rounds found in his possession, were seized and handed in at Cape Town Central police station exhibit stores for safe-keeping.
The man had been due to appear in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 22.
