A gym bag and laptop bag were stolen from a car in Joubert Road, Sea Point around 9pm on Thursday March 7.
Upon viewing the camera footage, the person whose car had been broken into, recognised the suspect whom he spotted in Ocean View Drive the following day – wearing the same clothes, and in possession of the stolen property.
Avenue Response and Sea Point SAPS were alerted and the suspect, a 30-year-old man who lives on the streets of Sea Point, was arrested on possession of car/house-breaking tools and theft out of motor vehicle.
He appeared before Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday March 11.
In another similar incident, car-breaking tools, bank cards, an identity card of someone else, and two remotes in working condition, were found in the possession of two men in Sea Point.
Police caught the men, both aged 45, looking into parked vehicles in Hillside Terraces on Sunday March 10.
The pair were taken into custody and a criminal background check showed that one of the men had seven outstanding cases against him registered with Sea Point police. These included theft, robbery and assault.
The other man had eleven awaiting trial theft cases against him. They appeared before the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday March 12, where bail was opposed.
