New bridge club opening

The Cape Town Wednesday Bridge Club is opening a new club for the Green/Sea Point community.

The club will open on Tuesday August 7 with about 40 members.

The founding member of the new bridge club, Harold Bernstein, said they had seen a gap because there are no afternoon bridge clubs in Cape Town.

He said they’ve noticed that it worked well in Johannesburg and thought it was time that they also tried that route.

“People play in the morning and some in the evenings because they work during the day and now we’re starting a club specifically for afternoons,” said Mr Bernstein.

The club will be a social duplicate club and they are hoping to have at least 10 tables when they open.

Mr Bernstein said he started playing bridge at the age of 17 and now at 85 years old, still enjoyed the game.

“The game is mentally stimulating, it is good for people’s old age and is recognised worldwide,” he said.

Residents, young and old, are encouraged to join the club which will take place every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 4.45 pm at the Western Province Bridge Centre, Sea Point. The entry fee is R35 per person. Call Mr Bernstein on 083 360 0984 for more details.
