New priest at St Peter’s

Lay minister William de Villiers, interim assistant priest Father Jim Harris and church warden and lay minister Lawrence Pettit.

After nearly eight years without a minister, St Peter’s in Camps Bay has received the news that Dr Jim Harris is to be their priest for at least a year. This is a part-time appointment as Mr Harris is retired.

However, he is not unknown to St Peter’s as he conducted worship on other occasions during the last year.

He was the Dean of Studies for the Diocese of Cape Town until 2015 and before that, for 17 years, he was Minister-in-charge of Emmanuel, Wynberg.

He also served at St Paul’s, Rondebosch, during 2017.

Mr Harris is married to Jeanette, a trained nurse turned librarian. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren.

The retired priest also has a wide set of interests including philosophy, theology, and motorbikes.

His first priority is to get to know the parishioners by visiting with them, listening to them and praying for them.

Those who have had links with St Peter’s in the past, as well as current members, are encouraged to contact
the Church Office on 021438 2478 to arrange an appointment.
