Thanks to former Miss South Africa, Sandy de Bruin, Cape Town is now a home to an elegant new art gallery called No 5 on Hudson based in the De Waterkant. Drawing on themes like Women and Art and Shades of Grey, Ms De Bruin has used her platform to focus on the empowerment and upliftment of female artists in South Africa. Speaking on the selection process for the gallery’s featured artists, Ms De Bruin explained that her focus was not only on beautiful and meaningful art, but how the pieces translate into our environment and how it fits into our aesthetic space. Ms De Bruin has always had a penchant for fine art, with her passion for painting having been revived while living in London, as she acquired a new appreciation for the arts. It was during this time that No 5 on Hudson was born. She has hand-picked a selection of pieces by renowned local artists, including Fiona Rowett, Nicole Pletts and Lesley Charnock. The gallery, situated at 5 Hudson Street, De Waterkant, is open from 10am to 5pm from Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
