Online laptop thief nabbed

A 27-year-old man was arrested for the possession of stolen laptops, cameras and cellphones on Monday April, 9.

Sea Point police officers responded to a call from a complainant informing them that the Zambian man wanted to sell him a laptop through the online classified website Gumtree.

On arrival, Constable Detective Thembisile Kika compared the given serial number of a laptop which had been reported stolen, with the one in possession of the Zambian man and it matched. The suspect’s vehicle was searched and more laptops were confiscated from the boot and inside the vehicle.

After a search at a suspect’s house in Summer Greens, additional laptops and other devices were discovered. The man was detained at Sea Point police station and police said his bail would be opposed.

Members of the public have been urged to contact Detective Kika if their laptops or cellphones had been stolen. A serial number and proof of ownership will be required.

Sea Point police also made three arrests while they were patrolling on Breamer Road, in Sea Point.

A 27-year-old man was arrested after he was caught red-handed breaking a vehicle’s window. Two other men, aged 36 and 37, were arrested after police found tools used to break into cars, in their vehicle.
