Janieke van Nugteren, Gardens
We live in Upper Union Street, Gardens, and had an issue with a planter outside for many months now.
It had attracted many so called “carguards” who sat there and over time it has resulted in public drinking and disorder.
A decision was made by the residents of the street to clean it up.
The planter is on council ground but wasn’t erected by the council.
The council offered to donate 13 Num Num plants.
We approached the Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel and their generosity has been overwhelming.
Not only have they got rid of the ivy damage on the wall above the planter, but they painted and re-plastered the wall – all at their own expense.
They planted the plants and have offered to water and maintain them.
Since this cosmetic improvement the gatherings and subsequent disorder have declined significantly. This dedication from the hotel to improving our environment is wonderful.
We cannot, as residents, thank them enough for helping us improve our street.
