Regulars at the Firemans Arms in De Waterkant can raise their glasses in celebration as the historical pub will live to serve another day after a fire broke out on its premises in the early hours of last Thursday, November 21.
City Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said the fire was extinguished at around 4am. The cause of the fire was undetermined and no injuries were reported.
The pub, which was established in 1864, was back to business on Friday morning as only the beer garden was affected.
Patrons took to social media to express their joy. Tina Gardner said: “I was so saddened to hear about the blaze but so relieved that the main building is okay and no one was hurt.”
Jayne Morkel said she was sad to hear about the fire but grateful for the news that the pub and restaurant are intact, and was looking forward to going back and raising a glass or three.
