Sea Point Primary School held its annual readathon last month, with the theme being Dr Seuss. Each class chose a book, decorated their classroom door and dressed up accordingly. Children also attended talks by local authors, took part in a Spelling Bee and read to each other. Foundation phase pupils had a picnic with hot chocolate and parents came to read to them. They watched shows and learnt many interesting facts about Dr Seuss, like his invention of the word “nerd” which is now in the dictionary. Also it took a whopping 27 tries to get his first book published. Although Dr Seuss books may first seem like nonsense, they all hold very important messages.
