The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) hosted the annual 2016/2017 Reconciliation Award at the Old Mutual Auditorium in Pinelands on Wednesday November 22. The organisation, which is based in Gardens, said the 2016/2017 Reconciliation Award was awarded to Gender Dynamix, Africa’s first African based NGO solely focusing on advancing, promoting and defending the rights of trans and gender non-conforming persons in South Africa.
The aim of the organisation is to provide help, advice and information for those who seek to adjust their lives to live in the opposite gender role, as to that assigned to them at birth, or who are working to come to terms with their situation despite their genetic background. The organisation also works on increasing the visibility and acceptance of transgender and also assists people to re-examine their understanding of gender diversity.
