The City of Cape Town held a recreational festival in Bo-Kaap on Saturday July 28 at the Yusuf Drive Park. A representative from the City, Lihle Hlomela, said this was an initiative by the City’s Recreation and Parks Department to promote recreational activities and build a relationship with residents and organisations in the community. Ms Hlomela said this came up after the holiday programme that they ran in the Bo-Kaap where they realised that there weren’t enough events happening in the area that involved children. “The City partnered with organisations in the community because we believe that they know their community better than we do,” she said. Ms Hlomela said they planned to have more events in the area including an event for the upcoming National Women’s Day, Thursday August 9.
