Resident thanks community for support after fire

A Sea Point resident whose flat was destroyed in a fire in last month has expressed gratitude to the community of Sea Point.

Two fire engines, one rescue vehicle and 26 firefighters battled the blaze on Wednesday February 6.

Lauren Novitzkas, 50, said she and her family lost everything in the fire on the third floor of the Towers, in Holmfirth Street Sea Point, including their 13-year-old dog, Becks. She said she and her and family were currently living in a B&B.

“We couldn’t believe people how many people who found out about the fire, reached out to us and helped us with items,” she said, adding that they had been given clothes and food, among other things.

“You’ve got to see it to believe what people did for us. The food and clothes were so much so that we couldn’t even utilise everything. We shared some of the stuff with the less fortunate,” she said.

“We’re doing fine now. The family cannot thank this community enough. A huge thank you to everyone. A special thank you to Gila Sacks, Ursula Fine who went above and beyond to ensure that we got the assistance that we needed,” she said.
