A blaze broke out along Table Mountain in Vredehoek on Monday January 16, resulting in residents having to be evacuated from their homes.
Russel Meiring spokesman for ER24 said paramedics, along with medical and fire fighting services, were on the scene at Frank and Clifford streets in Vredehoek where they helped evacuate residents. No injuries were reported and ER24 personnel were also able to rescue two cats. “Fire fighters and paramedics worked through the night to continue evacuation procedures as well as fighting the fire,” he explained.
“No homes were destroyed (but) sadly, severe damage had been caused to the surrounding areas as well as to the vegetation,” Mr Meiring said.
Liezl Moodie spokeswoman for the City’s Fire and Rescue department said eight fire engines and four water tankers were on the scene. “Firefighting efforts were concentrated on averting the spread of the fire towards the residential area in Oranjezicht,” she explained.
