School issues vegetation burn notice

The German International Cape Town Schools Solar Panel Plant project was officially launched earlier this month.

The German International School, Bay View Avenue, Tamboerskloof, is giving notice of a stack/fuel reduction burn between August and Tuesday October 15, depending on the weather

Application has been made to obtain the required burning permit from both the City of Cape Town’s Health’s Air Quality Management Unit and Fire and Rescue Services which will be valid until Tuesday October 15.

The school said vegetation on the site to be burned is invasive alien vegetation that has been cleared on the property.

The reduction and removal of the biomass by burning will assist in the re-establishment of the indigenous vegetation and ensure the success of all follow up operations to control any alien species that regrow on the site.

Lastly it will reduce the fuel load in the veld during fire season, particularly in the event of wildfires.

Residents can raise their concerns about the bush pile burning by emailing Mahjiedah Cornelis at Mahjiedah.Cornelis@capetown.gov.za or call 021 590 5200 by Monday August 12.
