Ward 54 councillor Nicola Jowell says the City of Cape Town is proud to support the Regent Road Festival happening on Saturday September 24, in Sea Point.
The Regent Road precinct association is made up of the businesses in and around Regent Road and is key to driving the festival to attract more investments.
“The association’s interim steering committee are driving a number of interventions to further these aims and the start of this is the next Regent Road Festival taking place this Saturday,” said Ms Jowell.
“Localised access will be arranged for those residential buildings whose vehicular access is affected. The event promises to be bigger and improved following the success of the April event and the lessons learnt,” she said.
The festival will see Regent Road closed between Church Street and Solomons Road from 10am until 10pm.
“Managed road closures will commence from 10am to allow business to set-up and will remain in place until 10.30pm to allow establishments to pack up after the event,” said JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security.
“The event provides an opportunity for all to enjoy the wonderful services, products food and drinks available on the road in a safe and unique way. The road is closed for all motorised vehicles and opened up to pedestrians,” he said.
Mr Smith said the street festival allows businesses to maximise their income due to the negative effects of Covid-19 while also improving the urban environment.
The layout will be informal dining with street seating, street vendors, and live music and entertainment from noon.
Local music fans can expect to see Angus Mthizwa, Lea Venga, Chris Bakalanga, Deep Soul, Judah, The Rivertones, and Hassanadas, among others, from noon to closing.
