Acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Christo Engelbrecht, welcomed the guests and encouraged the medal recipients to continue to do their work without expecting anything in return.

Captain Vho Madau from the provincial SAPS office also attended the event and congratulated the 40 recipients, thanking them for their hard work and determination.

He told them to not forget the people on the ground who support them such as cleaners and security guards.

“Some of you have compromised your relationships with spouses, some are struggling to spend quality time with children because of the commitment you have to the organisation, we see you, we thank you,” said Captain Madau.

Sea Point Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson, Heather Tager, also praised the officers for the great job they are doing in combating crime in the community and ensuring the safety of residents.

In turn, Ms Tager was recognised for continuing to answer the call of duty.

Ms Tager said people should try and stand in the shoes of police to understand the work that they do instead of criticising them.

“I know at times you feel drained, unmotivated, but you continue to carry on duty with drive, and the field that you’re in is difficult,” she told the police officers.

She said there was no shame in seeking trauma counselling and help because they faced stressful situations while on duty.

Sergeant Gail Dyssel entertained the officials at the event with the help of her father, Pastor Titus Abrahams.
