Security has been beefed up at the V&A Waterfront after one person was stabbed when a fight broke out between a group of youngsters at the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre on Saturday February 13.
A video of the incident has been circulating on social media showing a large group of young people fighting. One boy was wounded after he was stabbed in the back.
V&A Waterfront spokesperson, Donald Kau said they don’t know the cause of the fight and are reviewing video footage of the incident.
“We will interview our own security personnel and get further details from their report,” he said.
He said ER24 were called to attend to the victim at the scene. He was later released to his family, who arrived to fetch him.
No other injuries were reported. Mr Kau said a police case would allow Waterfront management to help police identify and arrest those involved in the fracas.
Western Cape police said no case had been opened.
“At this point, neither the victim nor relatives have laid a charge with the police. We would encourage them to open a case, ” he said.
He added that their security personnel were on the scene to disperse the group. He said this is an isolated incident and they immediately increased personnel on the weekend to monitor the situation.
