An inquest docket has been opened after an 18-year-old boy drowned in Cosy Beach, Oudekraal, on Saturday, March 6.
According to ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell, ER24 paramedics arrived after 2pm along with Life Healthcare Emergency Response to find a group five teenagers on the rocks, some distance from the shore.
The teenagers were performing CPR on their friend who had disappeared under the water while they were swimming.
They had managed to bring him to the surface after several minutes and then had lifted him onto a rock where they started CPR.
“Once the paramedics had reached the scene and taken over CPR, the friends had been trying to revive him for about 20 minutes. The paramedics continued for some time before unfortunately declaring the young man dead on the scene,” he said.
Atlantic Sun contacted the family of the teenager who drowned but they declined to comment and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
