Campbell McCraw, Director of Rugby, Atlantic Rugby Academy
Atlantic Rugby Academy is a non-racial academy which comprises more than 100 young players between the ages of 7 and 15 and practices on the CPUT/Gardens field in Oranjezight.
The grounds are owned by the Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU), who recently agreed to lease them to St Cyprian’s school for sports use. We approached
St Cyprian’s to see if we could co-exist at the grounds and the school unhesitatingly agreed to this.
I would like to thank St Cyprian’s for their community outreach, which is in line with the inner city non-racial, inclusive approach advocated by the Cape Town City Council. Over the past three years the academy has had players and former players selected at WP Craven Week level at under-13, under-16 and under-18. This year we have two former players in the WP under-16 elite squad, one in the WP Sevens squad, five players in the SACS 1st team squad and two players in the Rondebosch 1st team squad. Thanks to St Cyprian’s, the Atlantic Rugby Academy outreach programme will continue.
