Non-profit company Save a Fishie, Sea Point residents and staff from an estate agency picked up 20kg of rubbish at Three Anchor Bay last Sunday.
Zoe Prinsloo, 20, founded Save A Fishie when she was 15 years old, and she now works with a variety of firms that volunteer time as well as funds to her environmental cause.
“My mom, my younger sister have been doing this and will be doing this on a weekly basis. It takes alot of posting on social media and word of mouth to get people here. There’s plenty of benefits to cleaning the beach such as getting your steps in and keeping the environment clean,” she said.
“We’ve had a few companies join us for partner clean ups and for the next nine months we are teaming up with Rawson and we will be cleaning the beaches along the Atlantic seaboard so I’m excited about exploring these beaches,” she said.
Giuliano Giacovazzi, a Rawson franchisee in Three Anchor Bay, says they are looking forward to working with projects like Save a Fishie.
“We’ve been in the area for a few months and we want to have a good impact on our neighbourhood and we want to get to know the residents, our neighbours, in this area. We will be doing this nine more times and we really want to get the community involved,” he said.
The next clean up is on Sunday May 14 at Rocklands beach.
