Three dead in head-on collision

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, after two Lentegeur men and a Bo-Kaap teenager died in a head-on collision on the N7, between Kalbaskraal and Philadelphia intersections, opposite Klipvlei Broilers, at 2.40am on Sunday August 19.

SAPS provincial spokesman, Captain FC Van Wyk, said a black BMW and a red Volkswagen Golf collided head-on.

The two men died on the scene and the teen, the driver of the black BMW, was taken by ambulance services to a nearby hospital but died en route. Two other people were also taken to hospital.

Provincial traffic services assisted the police with traffic control and blocked a section of the N7 from 6am until 9.15am for proper investigation of the scene.

A culpable homicide case was opened for investigation.

Sixteen children were injured when a taxi overturned on the N2, near the R300 off-ramp on Monday August 20.

A girl, who was found underneath the upright taxi, was taken to hospital.

Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24, said the patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported by ER24 and Metro Services to nearby hospitals.

Further details surrounding this incident were not yet known at the time of printing but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
