Tanya Jellin, Milnerton
I would like to bring to the attention of the municipality that there is a tree with its branches and (pretty evergreen leaves) growing over most of Portswood Road.
It is on the left side as you drive left out of Portswood onto Helen Suzman Drive. I am just concerned that almost two-thirds of the tree is growing over the road while the trunk and remaining third are on the property line. It could become a danger to traffic and should be cut back, considering Cape Towns strong South Easterly winds.
Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral committee member for Community Service and Health, responds:
The City’s Recreation and Parks Department confirmed that the tree is not on City land.
Staff have assessed the tree and will contact the owners (V&A Waterfront) with regards to the trimming and ongoing maintenance of the tree.
As there is an immediate concern, the department will undertake the trimming of some overhanging branches.
