Two electricians suffered burns in an explosion at a substation in Vredehoek while they were trying to restore power to the area.
Last weekend’s storms left several suburbs without power due to severe wind and rain on Friday night.
According to ER24, their paramedics arrived on the scene at 10:42am on Saturday to attend to the two men, believed to be in their 30s, who had sustained burns while opening the electrical box. One suffered serious injuries and was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions, the other suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to a private hospital in the area for further care.
“The exact cause of the explosion is not known to ER24 but the Fire and Electrical Departments as well as SAPS were on the scene for further investigations,” said ER24 spokesperson, Ross Campbell.
