Whale carcass washed away

The humpback whale carcass which washed ashore south of the Black River mouth near the Cape Town Harbour has been moved by the sea. The City had been monitoring the carcass since it had washed ashore last Tuesday evening. The City’s mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment, Marian Nieuwoudt, said last week that the carcass had posed no risk, and that they could not reach it and can therefore not remove it. Ms Nieuwoudt said they expect for the carcass to surface on the shores again. “The City will continue to monitor and look for it. Once it is in a better location where we can access it, we will remove it.”
