Palestinian side Khanyounis Service Football Club was expected to take part in this year’s Bayhill under-19 Premier Cup, much to the delight of football fans, who wanted to see what the Middle Eastern side had to offer, football-wise. The side from the Gaza strip was slotted in Group D alongside FC Porto, Cape Town City and Hout Bay United. But, much to the disappointment of their supporters, they were unable to make it to Cape Town in time for the tournament. They only arrived on Sunday, which meant they couldn’t participate in the event. They did, however, play a friendly match against hosts Bayhill United, ahead of Easter Monday’s championship final between Highlands Park and Mamelodi Sundowns, winning 3-1. The side is scheduled to play another friendly match against Salt River Blackpool, at Shelley Road sports field, in Salt River, tonight, and in a tournament in Malta Park, in Observatory, at the weekend. On Friday, the team will visit Bo-Kaap from 5pm. Call 076 566 7774.
