South End women’s football club’s back-to-back defeat is a learning experience says head coach, Edward MacDonalds.

The Athlone-based outfit played to a 2-1 defeat to CPUT women’s team during a Safa Cape Town Regional Women’s League game at the Johnson Road sports grounds on Saturday.

The following day, fatigue played a heavy role as they met a well-structured Mighty City women’s team that beat them 3-1.

MacDonalds said his team played well in both games, however, they will have to focus on scoring goals at training this week.

“Our team performed very well against CPUT. They played a good game. We outplayed them on some parts although the referee did not have a good game.

“We also had a good game against Mighty City but our girls could not finish,” he said.

MacDonalds said they have a lot of work to do ahead of their game against GreenLovers at home on Saturday.

“We have got to change these girls’ mindset in front of goals. We are seventh on the log and we have got to move up,” said MacDonalds.

CPUT Striker Phelokazi Ntola scored the winning brace during their 2-1 against South End on Saturday.

On Sunday, Ntola scored a goal and helped her fellow teammate, Yonathi Ndleleni, a super sub, score a hattrick in their 4-1 win against New Stars, in Bellville CPUT campus.

“The coach converted me to a striker on our last day at training last week. I guess it paid off well because this was my first time playing in that position. We played well in both games. On Saturday we conceded an easy penalty but we missed a lot of chances which we took the following day,” said Ntola.

CPUT will play away this weekend to Might City and Strandfontein.
