African Pride Fighting Championship (APFC) will host a charity fight on Saturday November 16 at 14 Hope Street, Gardens, from 6pm.
The event will raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and will benefit the SAME Foundation.
It will see men aged between 35 and 50 lacing up for the cause as the disease mainly affects this group.
Topping the bill will be a clash of two Mikes as the co-owner of APFC, Mike Mouneimne takes on Mike Goslett. They hope to raise R60 000.
“Ballie Beatdown is a new event in our stable of charity events which we aim to run annually. Prostate cancer is seen as a cancer that affects middle aged men and this is why putting older guys in beards and moustaches on this card made so much sense for this event.
“Our Ballie Beatdown event includes fighters who are survivors of cancer as well as Guillain-Barré Syndrome and so is very close to the hearts of the guys entering,” said Mouneimne.
Goslett said: “We are all tough guys at heart but the struggle for many men is that nobody wants to talk about their health both physically and mentally as then they might seem weak.
“We need to show that even tough guys need an encouraging word or a handshake to get them through the day when this illness happens to attack their bodies.”
In total there will be 15 bouts, which will also include young fighters from different stables.
