Last Thursday, the Camps Bay CID and SAPS apprehended three suspects after receiving a tip-off about a vehicle believed to have been hijacked, in the area.
The vehicle was located and successfully pulled over by SAPS and the CID’s tactical squad, resulting in the arrest of three people.
SAPS searched the vehicle and found an unlicensed handgun. All three suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Since the CID’s inception in July our preventative strategy has yielded impressive results, 522 preventative actions taken by joint teams, including stop-and-search operations, suspicious vehicle identification, securing unsecured premises, K9 patrols at night, and public assistance rendered,” said the CBCID manager Muneeb “Mo” Hendricks.
According to Mr Hendricks authorities are tightening the net on criminality and anti-social behaviour in Camps Bay.
“Our law enforcement partners have issued a total of 1756 fines for by-law infringements and traffic offences. 75 units of alcohol and 90 illegal trader items were confiscated and two stolen vehicles were recovered along with one taxi being impounded,” he said.
Captain LD Janse van Rensburg, station commander at Camps Bay SAPS, said they have an excellent working relationship with the Camps Bay CID.
“Formal and informal discussions are taking place on a daily basis with the CID. I can not emphasise enough the important role the CID plays in our fight against crime in the Camps Bay policing precinct. The busy season is slowly picking up, and we are dedicated to work hand in hand with the CID and all other role-players to make Camps Bay a safe holiday destination for all visitors,” said Captain Janse van Rensburg.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the CBCID 24-hour control centre at 087 223 2864.
