Culinary winners celebrated by the hospitality industry

Terise Pillay, from Panaroma, represented the International Hotel School at the Young Stars awards.

The Mount Nelson hosted and toasted the contestants of the culinary competition, Reaching for Young Stars 2022, last Wednesday.

There were several categories in this annual contest ranging from best barista, pastry and even awards for the best cocktails. The ultimate winner was Terise Pillay who walked away with the Hot Chef of the Year award.

Ms Pillay, together with second placed Chulumanco Mavuso and third placed Marthinus Terblanche will be off to Winslow’s Tavern in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, for a five-month working experience.

Hot Chef number two is Chulumanco Mavuso from Zonnebloem, a student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
The third placed Hot Chef, Marthinus Terblanche from Strand, is a student at Chefs Training and Innovation Academy (CTIA).
Chanda du Plooy from Strandfontein, is a student at False Bay TVET college and won the Pastry Chef of the Year Award.
Craig Munemo was the winner in the beverage division and came second in the barista category.
