The City of Cape Town closed three of its vehicle testing stations on March 31. Joe Gqabi in Phillipi, Hillstar in Ottery and Gallows Hill in Green Point, were all closed due to low numbers of vehicle testing services registered at the stations.
City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security: and social services, JP Smith, said it was not financially viable to hang onto vehicle stations that were not fully utilised by the public.
However, the City will avail facilities and services to the public when it is needed the most.
The three stations will now re-open over the December and Easter periods to accommodate buses and taxis responsible for transporting members of the public on various long distance routes where roads safety remains a priority.
The Bellrail, Brackenfell, Durbanville, Goodwood and KuilsRiver vehicle testing stations will remain open to the public.
